Savannah was advertised in Europe as being the "most delightful place" on earth. Oglethorpe invited congregations of oppressed religious groups to flea to Georgia. The protestants, for example, were kicked out of Austria by a catholic cardinal, given but two weeks to depart. They roamed around Europe from about 1723 to 1733/4 searching for homes. Oglethorpe invited them to the new Georgia colony and the straggled remains of this group settled in Ebenezer.
