Old Tobacco Road

"Find your Ancestors on Georgia Pioneers"
The old tobacco road is Georgia Route 56. It was first laid out in 1789 to enable tobacco to be carried to New Savannah (which was above the Savannah River Floods). This road went toward north Georgia without crossing a stream and tobacco hogsheads were rolled to the warehouses in Augusta.
