Revolutionary War: Wilkes County

The British gathered armies of Tories in upper South Carolina to strike at the ragged and ill-equipped Americans who set up headquarters in Wilkes County and sent out bands which roved the countryside, crossing and recrossing the Savannah, sniping at isolated British outposts.
